Gears of War 5 is a huge video game, both in popularity and amount of Voice Over! I had the pleasure of recording Voice Over artist Bruno Mello who portrayed the character Del.
There is an enormous amount of dialog in a game like this. Some of it’s freeform, some is strict time constraint and some is lip sync.
The lip sync is the most fun because you get to see how it matches up with the video but is also tricky because Portuguese and English don’t necessarily match syllable for syllable!
The studio, Audioman, that was contracted with overseeing the Portuguese overdubs is located in Sao Paolo. It’s run by a school mate, Nick Casabona, from my Musicians Institute days in the late 90’s. Pretty cool!
It was fun working on such a cool game with great talent. If you’re a gamer you’ve got to check it out!
